How To Properly Inspect Your Stainless Steel Hoses

No matter what your stainless steel hoses are being used for, it is important to make sure that you are keeping a close eye on their condition. This way, you will be able to replace them as quickly as possible when they start to go bad. Remember, even though these may seem to be the strongest hoses you have ever used, they are not meant to last forever, so you need to be prepared to replace them. To help you with this, you can check out the following things you need to remember to look for when inspecting your hoses.

Check For Kinking

A kink in the hose is not a matter that is as simple as untwisting it. When a steel hose has been kinked, its integrity has been compromised. Therefore, if you find any sort of bend in the stainless steel hose or a kink, you need to shut off whatever it is connected to and replace it right away. You cannot simply assume that the insides of the hose are still perfectly in tact. Since the replacement of the stainless steel hose is not expensive or very time consuming, you are not going to want to skip out on it.

Look For Discoloration

Your stainless steel hose should be nice and silver. You should not be able to spot any discolorations on the hose, or any spots that look like little freckles. If you find such spots, you need to know that this is a sign of contact with foreign matter. This discoloration is happening because there is a break down in the protective coating on and in the hoses. Therefore, even if you are spotting the smallest spots of discoloration, you are going to want to go ahead have have the hose replaced.

Inspect The Fittings

The fittings should have threads that are uniform and are not showing signs of fraying, stripping, or anything of the sort. If the fittings do not look as good as the day you bought the stainless steel hoses, then you need to replace them. The last thing you want to do is to find yourself continuing to use old hoses with worn out fittings, as you just never know when those fittings are going to completely fail.

As long as you are making sure that you are inspecting your stainless steel hoses with the previously mentioned tips in mind, you should have no problem figuring out when it is time to replace them. (For more information, contact a company such as Liberty Hose & Supply Inc)
